Flowers and Allergies

Flowers can brighten a room and bring a smile to your face - unless you suffer from allergies. But even if you do have allergies you may be able to enjoy the beauty of fragrant blooms without itchy, watery eyes, sneezing and other symptoms. Flowers that contain high levels of pollen are most likely to trigger allergic reactions. These include chrysanthemums, daises and sunflowers. Some mums and daises, however, have been bred to have double blooms and don't have as much pollen as their natural counterparts. Some of the best flowers for people with allergies are begonias, geraniums, impatiens, petunias and zinnias. And the classic favorite, roses, are also a good choice.
