Skip traditional gift wrap and bags that go straight into the garbage. Try wrapping presents in newspapers or fabric. Get the family together to make DIY ornaments. Use things you already have on hand, like seasonal cookie cutters, twine, mixed nuts, ribbons, yarn, flameless LED candles, pipe cleaners or construction paper, to create one-of-a-kind ornaments for your tree.
Give the gift of an experience to enjoy after the holidays. Whether it's a nice dinner, a concert, a day pass to a museum, a spa day, tickets to a sporting event, or music lessons, you'll know your gift will create special memories for a loved one.
Make your holiday meal from scratch and grocery shop in bulk to avoid excessive plastic packaging. Try to buy seasonal meat and produce from local farmers for an affordable, greener option. Once the meal is over, send leftovers home with guests to reduce food waste. Make sure guests know to bring reusable containers for leftovers.
